Joe Machyowsky runs for Roseville School Board

The following information was submitted by the candidate

I am running for Roseville School Board for three reasons:

• I believe in a grass-roots ordinary citizen should be represented on the Roseville School Board.

• I believe all school board meetings should be televised so the public can be completely informed of all issues involved.

• I believe that the schools in Roseville, as many other suburban schools, are trying to be all things to all people, at taxpayer's expense.

Here are some things that I would be interested in exploring if I become a school board member:

• Emphasize American culture and standards in the American school system.

• Say the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag daily in each school, rather than the mandatory once a week.

• To accommodate and help our people of ethnically diverse groups assimilate into the American culture, do two things: First, provide a combination religious/recreational lounge in the high school where diverse ethnic groups can meet and pray as desired.

Second, speak only English in the public areas of the elementary and high schools.

• Reduce the frills in our extra curricular activities, such as excessive big sports, big bands and theatrical productions as well as gymnastics teams. We are here to educate.

• To help our large (6500 strong) senior citizen community, do not close the Fairview Community Center building on County Road B.

• Eliminate poorly attended special courses in the curriculum to help cut down expenses.

• Where applicable, reduce the amount of possibly unnecessary homework, especially in the elementary grades.
